MALAYSIA IMMIGRATION UPDATE – Projection Of Expatriates For 2018
Projection of Expatriates for 2018
Applications for the 2018 Projection of Expatriates will be open for submission at the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) starting 1 Oct 2017.
Companies who are registered with the ESD can start to apply for their 2018 projection whether for short-term or long-term assignments.
The processing time is between 5 – 10 working days.
Any unutilized projection approved for 2017 will not be carried forward for 2018.
At present, this projection application is only open for companies registered with the ESD.
For companies registered with MDEC (Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation), no announcement has been made yet.
How to Apply?
Applications must be made online at the ESD portal with the company’s respective login ID.
What’s the impact?
Companies who are scheduled to have expatriates on assignment in Malaysia in 2018 must have the projection approved and made available in the ESD portal before any work permit (i.e. Employment Pass / Professional Visit Pass) applications can be made.
If the projection is not applied for in advance, an additional 1 – 2 weeks will be added onto the processing time of a work permit application (which is also within 1 -2 weeks) bringing the total processing time to 2 – 4 weeks instead of half that time.
