Employment Pass (EP) applications for NIGERIANS

What’s new?

In addition to the existing nationalities of China, Bangladesh and Pakistan, effective 1 September 2019, all Nigerian nationals applying for Employment Pass (EP) under MDEC (Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation) will need to submit the following hardcopy documents :-

  • Copy of educational certificate with original attestation/original certified true copy (CTC) by the Malaysian High Commission in Nigeria
  • Copy of marriage/birth certificate or proof of relationship documents with original attestation/original certified true copy (CTC) by the Malaysian High Commission in Nigeria

For purposes of the EP application, the Authorities will retain these documents and will not be returned.

Current requirements dictate the same certification process, but can be submitted online with no requirement for hardcopies being submitted.

What’s the impact?

  • Companies will need to include the additional time for their intended employee/assignee to obtain the said attestation and CTC at the Malaysian Embassy in Nigeria. Depending on the availability of the assignee’s Certificates and also where he/she is currently residing, the process could be anywhere between 1 – 4 weeks.
